Rejection Reasons
The rejection reason message people see in-game can sometimes feel unjustified, unfair or confusing. While it's impossible to not have some subjectivity in the application review process, there is a fairly consistent criteria on what an accepted application needs to be and why an application would get rejected. There is no strict template that players are expected to follow, a big aspect of your application is that it is meant to be your own.
The following page will hopefully provide clarification about this by detailing what the typical rejection reasons are and what they mean, without explicitly telling you the answers.
"Low/Very low/Extremely low effort application"
Of all the rejection reasons this is the most subjective and quite broad but deciding if an application is "low effort" still follows a consistent pattern.
The purpose of the application process is to filter out players who could cause issues on the server. If players don't write anything of substance in their application, it's very hard to make that judgement call. The application reviews will always steer on the side of caution, even if it costs the potential of a fantastic new member on the server. This does not mean you need to write a lot, or with perfect grammar and spelling, honestly there are a lot of applications that are extremely long and written with the most perfect spelling and grammar but they still manage to have no substance because of how generically written or robotic they are. You can submit an application with 500 words that says nothing and one with 2 words that says nothing, both will get you the same result.
The "low effort" reason also includes applications that read as if the person who wrote them doesn't care at all. There seems to be a common misconception that simply submitting an application entitles you to instant access to the server, this is not true and would make having a whitelist practically useless. This can also mean that this rejection reason is often combined with other reasons, it's very obvious when someone slips up and makes a legitimate mistake, which is fine, compared to them not caring at all or not being bothered to put in some effort into their application but at that point I start wondering why you are even submitting an application.
"Not answering a/multiple question/s properly"
Some of the questions on the application form can be answered incorrectly and there are also questions that people don't answer in full. Seeing this as part of your rejection reason means you have at least done one of those things.
Without directly spoon feeding you the answers, I'll try and give you an overall idea on what questions this applies to.
If a question is asking about you, there are no incorrect responses unless your answer is impossible.
If a question is asking if you have done something, there are incorrect responses. With the exception of "Have you joined the hub server", this question is intended as a reminder and can't be answered incorrectly. It is strange if you lie saying you have joined, when you haven't though, but you won't get an application rejection because of it.
If the question is asking about something specific to this server it is possible to answer incorrectly and/or incompletely.
"Missing the important detail in the final question"
The page before the application form does include something that you need to put on your application. The final question on the application form does remind you about this and it's not a prank. Failing to include the correct important detail will cause your application to be rejected regardless of how good it is.
"Incorrect important detail included in the application/final question"
The application form isn't asking for any important detail, it's asking for a specific important detail.
You need to include the current important detail, not a previous important detail. The time when your application is submitted gets saved and your correct important detail is determined by what was one the page at that time.
Not everything you see is the correct important detail, you are expected to read, interpret and understand the statements on the "Apply now!" page. This being a hurdle is both surprising and unfortunate.
"Incomplete important detail in the final question"
The correct important detail was in some way included in your application but it wasn't complete.
"Unlikely to be a fit for the server"
Don't take this personally but there are some playstyles or interests that this server simply doesn't provide for or suit. This does not mean what you're interested in is 'bad' or 'good', it just means it doesn't fit on this server.
It's important that players submitting applications are honest with their expectations of the server and what playstyles they find interesting so I can't include specific details on what this refers to without skewing that, but the server isn't designed to be for everyone. There is a decent amount of variety within the players on the server and what players can do but if a significant amount of your application includes you being interested or wanting to do something that doesn't fit, then this isn't the right server for you.
"No reason provided"
This is one of the rarer rejection reasons to see. If your application was rejected and this is the response you get, it doesn't mean you were rejected for no reason, it means that you are not going to be provided the reason.
The reason behind you getting this as a response varies quite a lot and I will not be providing any details on why, as it overrules all other application response requirements i.e regardless of the quality of your previous/future application/s, they will not be accepted.
This whole application process may seem too strict, unnecessary or overly-cautious and it definitely filters out people that could be good additions to the community but this is the cost of trying to keep the community a place where people want to be, and at the end of the day, no one is entitled to join the server.
