Server Etiquette

Clarification on expectations for players on the server

This page shows the general etiquette and expectations of players that are on the server. If you'd like to fit in and not have other players '/ignore' you, be server muted or removed from the whitelist it is strongly recommended to have a quick read of the following.

Avoid begging for resources or constantly expecting players to respond to your questions.

Most players have put quite a lot of effort to progress as far as they have, don't expect people to just give you stuff for free. Players might offer resources if they choose to. You can politely decline if you would rather get started on your own, this is fairly common for players to do.

You also should avoid flooding the chat with constant questions about how to play Minecraft or if people can help you with a project (or constantly bugging them with unwanted help). People are busy and a lot of the time they just want to chill, they are not obligated to teach you how to play the game. Some players will offer to help which is great, but if they don't please don't just keep asking.

If someone doesn't respond, it's probably because they are busy!

The Minecraft Wiki (https://minecraft.wiki/) is a fantastic place to learn about various Minecraft game mechanics. I would strongly recommend using the Minecraft Wiki or YouTube tutorials to help you learn how to play Minecraft and use this wiki to figure out how to use features that are specific to this server.

Reiterating the 'Be nice to each other' rule

Calling people names, revealing unnecessary personal information(doxxing), harassing someone (or a group of people) in chat, etc are all not okay and not allowed on the server.

Just because something is unclaimed or 'abandoned', doesn't give you the right to just take it.

Looting other player's builds, even if they appear to be abandoned, is griefing. Griefing will get you banned.

Just because you can break blocks or loot chests doesn't mean you should!

Supporters aren't exempt from the rules

Fortunately I have not ran into this problem but being a Supporter of the server does not give you the freedom to break the rules or cause trouble with other players. Supporters are expected to follow the same rules and expectations as everyone else.

If you think this might be a problem for you, I suggest not monetarily supporting the server.

Please don't spam commands

This is specifically for commands like '/tpa', '/trade' etc where the receiving player will get a chat message or sound. Its annoying and not appreciated by the players on the server, one request is usually enough.

The preferred way to cave

A lot of players use mods that allow them to see in dark areas without placing torches and this is fine. Players also often sprint through caves mining diamonds exclusively and this is also fine. However it is preferred that you do the majority of your resource caving adventures in the resource world. This is because of how the chunk trimming and regeneration process works. Unfortunately when you do this type of caving you are likely loading chunks for long enough to make them be excluded from being trimmed. This means those chunks will never be regenerated again and because of the world border in the main worlds, this will result in us eventually running out of chunks available to be regenerated and updated to feature the terrain features and mobs of the latest version of Minecraft.

Relax on the inappropriate chat discussions/messages

This is an online public server. Please be aware of this when talking on the server or in our Discord. There are a lot of topics that should remain private. Some examples are;

  • Discussions about ages are pretty unnecessary. Discussions about ages are not usually problematic but it's a good practice on the internet to avoid.

  • Generally inappropriate discussions. Minecraft is played by people of all ages, so use some common sense on what topics shouldn't be spoken about in the public game chat or Discord channels.

  • Unnecessary personal information about yourself or others. It's probably best to avoid revealing personal information about yourself and other people usually don't appreciate it when you reveal personal information about them. I could go into specifics here about what is definitely not allowed and what's probably okay but I'd rather people take the overly cautious approach.

Avoid asking about ban appeals, whitelist applications or support tickets

I understand currently there is no good way to see the progress of your ban appeal. Until then trust that if you have submitted a ban appeal, it has been seen. Do not pressure other players to ask about your ban appeal and please do not start spam messaging people about it. You got banned for doing something you shouldn't have, take it as a lesson for the future.

If your whitelist application has been processed and rejected you should be able to see the reason by attempting to join the server. You will also know if it has been accepted because you will be able to join the AussieSMP. Most whitelist applications are processed within a few days but if something has gone wrong it may take up to a week. If it has been over a week since you submitted your application and you still can't join and don't receive a rejection message, please submit another application.

You are absolutely welcome to /ignore players

The server has a '/ignore' command and you are definitely allowed to use it. Here is some advice on how to use it effectively.

  • You may need to use '/ignore' on multiple worlds of the server. For example, once on the Survival worlds and once on the Creative Worlds. This is a quirk with how the worlds are hosted.

  • If you use the Discord server and would like to block this player on Discord you will also need to do this separately. Players who join the Discord server are meant to change their server nickname to their in-game username so everyone is easily able to know who they are talking to. If the other player is in the Discord server you should be able to find them and block them.

Unfortunately you will still be able to see their in-game messages through the #game-chat channel.

AusGG and any of our servers are not affiliated with Mojang AB or Microsoft.
